It started in 2010 with an impromptu vision of purposeful shopping. Delicate Fortress Creations was born out of a need I saw in advocating for fair trade principles and against the atrocities of human trafficking, extreme poverty and exploitation. I learned that non profits existed that coached women, men and children out of these dire situations and offered them dignified work, sustainable employment and safety along with education, counseling and comradely with individuals in situations like theirs. Purchasing their beautiful creations, shopping, was a routine part of life with birthdays, Christmas, Mother's Day. It was such a simple way to make a difference.
We partnered with non profits and small business across the world, bringing our customers trendy, one of a kind creations made by delicate fortresses - people whose exploitation and subsequent healing revealed both fragility and strength.
Over those years, we worked with so many amazing people. Met amazing world changers who wanted to make a difference in any way possible, even with something as simple. as shopping. I am so proud of the people I met along the way.
My own journey changed from what I had imagined when I first started DFC. Our adopted son came home, after a 3 year process, in July of 2014. The behaviors shown through his eventual diagnosis of reactive attatchemnt disorder created need for focus on healing, within him and it turns out, within me. I worked through my own journey, understanding my great weaknesses and God's strength within me to heal and work toward loving our son. Our story along with an ever changing social media landscape and marketing demands outside of my area of expertise grew to be draining for me. Instead, my focus became on telling my own story and continuing to advocate and do simple things to make a difference in the lives of others.
To that end, Delicate Fortress Creations has changed from being a shop with purpose site to a sit on living with purpose, finding ways to make a difference with the passions and unique gifts your life offers. I look forward to this new journey with you. ~Karyn
